I suspect the machine shop that built the engine did not remove the jets to thoroughly clean the block, and there is probably some RTV stuck up under the valve. The engine is out of the car now. The first couple times I swapped cams, I just left it in.. But it only takes me about 3 hours to pull, so I figured I'd save myself the headache. I would definitely have it tanked if that were a timely option right now, but all the machine shops in my area are 3 months behind at this point due to the race season. (We have Watkins Glen and a few strips right around the corner here.) Regardless, thank you for all of your help! It looks like it will be some long rifle brushes, some carb cleaner, and a whole lot of hours for me! I will probably get to this tomorrow, and will post back again if I find any more surprises.
